Secondary Statutory Relationships and Sex Education

Outline

Under the Children and Social Work Act 2017 the government has committed to making relationships education (primary) and relationships and sex education (secondary) statutory in all schools, including LA maintained schools, academies, faith schools, free schools and independent schools.

Description

All schools will soon be required to have a relationships and sex education policy in place and be able to state how they will meet the requirements of the statutory curriculum.

This briefing will inform Governors of the statutory requirements of the new curriculum, exemptions that apply and the steps that schools need to take to ensure that they are prepared for mandatory provision by September 2020.
