This course is aimed at governors who may be requested to sit on a HR panel to consider an employment matter.

The course will outline the processes to be followed during hearings and also consider some of the challenges and issues that may arise during these potentially contentious hearings.

Course outcomes:
  • provide a short summary overview of the main HR procedures that may result in hearings; disciplinary, sickness absences, grievance, capability
  • provide an outline of the expectations and responsibilities of panel members
  • discuss the main pitfalls and challenges that often arise during hearings
  • ensure that governors are confident to challenge the process and evidence under consideration to ensure a fair process and reduce the likelihood of appeals/tribunals
