This seminar series is designed to begin to share what we have learned, and believe to be both informative and of value to classroom teachers. We do not pretend that this is the last word, no doubt there are better examples, studies and publications available. However, we hope that this series will both prove to be a quick, and easily accessible resource for teachers, and encourage them to incorporate some of the ideas within their daily practice.
Our attentional resources are limited and must be directed towards the most important information or task required. Cognitive Load Theory has helped teachers focus on the efficiency of their explanations to avoid cognitive overload. This seminar will look to explain the key strategies which could be used effectively in order to reduce cognitive overload and promote memorisation.
- What is cognitive load theory
- The types of cognitive load
- Concepts which inform practice
