"Children who read for pleasure are happier, healthier and do better in life than those who don't." Book Trust CEO Diana Gerald 2015
The Education Library Service (ELS) provides a wide range of books both for curriculum support and reading for pleasure, and can support schools to take a flexible approach to book provision across the curriculum and throughout the school. Additionally, the advisory and promotional services offered by the ELS can enhance and enrich the reading environment within schools.
The ELS holds a stock of around 50,000 fiction, nonfiction, poetry and picture books. Schools have total flexibility of choice and can borrow any combination of bespoke book packs on any subject and/or bulk reading loans.
We also offer a range of promotional and advisory services to schools. These are all tailored to individual schools and teachers, and range from guidance on developing a school library, or training for volunteer helpers, to advice on author visits, motivational book talks, running library & information skills sessions or supporting book week events.
Two experienced library assistants – based at the ELS offices at Riddings Library – manage provision of all ELS book resources. Librarians from the Children’s & Young People’s team deliver the advisory and promotional activities.
