The Legal Services has a long history of providing support to Schools, and is committed to developing an increasingly efficient and effective legal support to its clients. The Service comprises, among others, 10 qualified solicitors (regulated by the Law Society) with a wide range of legal skills and experience in public and private sectors.
The service currently provides legal advice and governance support across the whole range of council functions and responsibilities.
From an education perspective, the Service has long standing experience of advising the LEA and schools on a wide range of legal issues arising from the council’s responsibility for maintained Schools. However the Legal Services’ has no obligation to provide services for Academies but it is in a position to provide advice and support to Academies based on the work it provides to maintained Schools. Although the Legal Service recognises that the difference in the position of Academies from maintained School both from the legal and financial perspective nevertheless there are similarities by virtue of the type of services they both provide
