Always Catering to your needs!

North Lincolnshire Council's schools catering service is part of the council’s wider and continual commitment to the development of your pupils, their education and the on-going contribution that they will make to society. As a result we ensure that our high quality meals are produced using locally sourced foods, provide the highest standards of nutritional value as well as delivering Value for Money to schools. We match this with the emphasis we place on working in partnership with you to develop a tailored service to schools, a comprehensive staff development programme and the strong desire to integrate the service into school and community life.

We work hard to ensure we continually increase our range of local products. Which now is over 50% of the food purchased. This benefits your pupils as we are investing into the local economy and also reducing environmental impacts. Your pupils are our citizens of tomorrow, giving North Lincolnshire Council a unique reason to invest in all of our futures.

We are delighted that we’ve achieved the Bronze Food for Life Catering Mark in recognition of our commitment to serving freshly prepared, seasonal meals that offer our pupils a great healthy meal every day, cooked by our great school cooks who care about the children and what they eat.

The Food for Life Catering Mark brings together all of the issues people care about – health, climate change and animal welfare. It recognises restaurants and caterers who serve fresh food that is free from controversial additives and better for animal welfare.

More and more, people want to know where their food has come from and how it is produced. The Catering Mark guarantees that we serve is fresh, additive free and good quality.

The introduction of Universal Infant free school meals in September 2014 saw the biggest change in the service for over three decades. Making sure schools that all these extra mouths were fed required a great deal of planning by the service and schools.

These extra meals means that we now serve more than 15,000 meals every day, and have increased our staff teams as well as our spend on local food.

On top of all this change, the government introduced new standards for school food. We ensure that all menus meet these standards. Our Menu and recipe design is carried out by a team of school cooks and pupils. Our menus offer a combination of traditional meals and international flavours offering a varied range of dishes that are all cooked as close to the dinner bell as possible. These are complimented by fresh vegetables, salads, fresh fruit and lots of home baked products. Schools can academies have full input into the menu planning, enabling a personalised menu for each school and academy.

Our staff are knowledgeable, trained and experienced; supported by proven procedures and performance management. Audit and close liaison with schools anc academies reinforce this structure and ensure that standards continue to rise from their already high level. With 67 sites, serving 84% of NLC schools, and over 350 staff employed in the area we have strength in depth, thus are able to support for changing needs in schools and academies. We have a willingness to grow and take on new challenges in partnership with you, including changing circumstances at schools and extension of services to new schools.
